Social media platform Twitter has suffered a service outage affecting users around the world.

The site’s official website and app failed to load for users in the UK, with the web version of the service displaying an error message saying something was “technically wrong” at the social media site.

Website status monitor Down Detector confirmed service problems, however many users reported still being able to use alternative Twitter clients such as Tweetdeck.

The web monitoring service said the majority of users that reported the issue to them were having problems with the platform’s website.

Some users in the UK began to see service reappear shortly after 3.40pm, before Twitter acknowledged the issue for themselves on their official Support account.

“Some users may have experienced problems sending and viewing Tweets earlier today,” the company said in a tweet.

“This issue is now resolved.”
