A motorist has admitted causing the death of a 19-year-old motorcyclist by careless driving.

James Dye also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance when he appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday via videolink from Elmley Prison.

The 22-year-old, of Gillingham, previously faced the more serious charge of death by dangerous driving, but the CPS dropped this in light of his plea.

Spanish-born Ismael Martinan-Brittain, who moved to Kent when he was three, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Chatham on January 2.

His mother Maria Brittain said he was a “wonderful son” who was dedicated to his family and his love of motorbikes.

Dye was remanded in custody until he is sentenced on May 4.
