A man has been remanded in custody accused of attempted murder after 13 people were injured when a car ploughed into a nightclub.

Mohammed Abdul, 21, appeared at Medway Magistrates Court in Chatham, Kent, accused of driving a Suzuki Vitara into a number of people at Blake’s nightclub in Gravesend, Kent, on Saturday.

The court heard how many people were left with injuries including broken knees, dislocated knees and dislocated pelvises, after the incident.

Abdul sat hunched in a green hooded jacket with a plaster on his forehead, and appeared in court via a videolink from North Kent Police station.

He showed no reaction as Dr Sola Adeyemi, chairman of the bench, remanded him in custody until April 16.

Abdul spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, residence and his nationality, British.

Abdul initially told officers he had no fixed address but then gave his residence as Gilbert House, McMillan Street, south east London.
