The Prince of Wales has made a private visit to the London home of MI5 in his role as patron of the intelligence services.

Charles’ trip on Tuesday was a long standing diary commitment scheduled before the major political and diplomatic incident involving the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal, 66, and his daughter, Yulia Skripal, 33.

The Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements, stated on March 13: “The Prince of Wales, Patron, the Intelligence Agencies, later visited the Headquarters of the Security Service at Thames House, Millbank, London SW1.”

In 2016, Charles visited British security agency GCHQ – while last year the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge went to MI6 to meet the nation’s spies.
