Cash aimed at closing the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their most well-off classmates is being used to pay for campus officers at schools in Glasgow.

The five officers now in place at schools in the south-west of the city are funded by the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund and Police Scotland.

They are based at Bellahouston Academy, St Paul’s High School, Rosshall Academy, Govan High and Hillpark Secondary.

Chief Inspector Alan Bowater said: “After seeing the positive impact that the Bellahouston campus officer was having in the community, we approached the other secondary schools in the division to see if they were interested in securing funding to buy into the project.

“We are delighted to have the support of all five schools, and thankful that the Scottish Government’s Pupil Equity Fund was able to help us support the schools and the surrounding community.”

The £120 million Pupil Equity Fund is paid directly to eligible schools across Scotland.
