A man has been airlifted to hospital after a car was hit by a train at a level crossing.

The emergency services were called to Bloss level crossing in Melton, Suffolk, shortly before 10.30am, British Transport Police said.

The man, believed to be the driver of the car, was injured and was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment.

Police said there were no reported injuries on board the train.

There are likely to be extensive delays to rail services, and passengers are advised to check with Greater Anglia and National Rail Enquiries before travelling.

Officers are examining the circumstances which led to the car being struck, and are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, and saw what happened, to get in touch by sending a text to 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40.
