A confectionery firm is recalling two of its tablet products because they could contain small pieces of metal.

People who bought some batches of Athole Tablet’s Scots Tablet or Iron Broo Tablet have been told they should not eat the products and can return them for a refund.

Food Standards Scotland (FSS), the watchdog which issued the recall notice, said the firm has already taken steps to withdraw the confectionary from sale following the “production issue”. No other products from Athole Tablet Ltd are known to be affected.

The items being recalled come in 2.2kg jars and carry best before dates for February next year. The recall information notice issued by FSS stated that the product “may contain small pieces of metal which could present a safety risk”.

The food standards body added: “If you have bought any of the above products do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.”

The Scots Tablet batch numbers affected are 171920P1-4, 172221P1-8, 172321P1-5, 172421P1-4 and 172521P1-4. The relevant Iron Broo Tablet batch numbers are 172321P6-8 and 172621P1-4. All other batch numbers and other flavours of tablet or jars of fudge are not being recalled.
