Boy, 13, dies after being pulled from water at popular beauty spot

A 13-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty while swimming at a popular beauty spot.
He had been playing with friends when he had to be pulled from the water on Wednesday afternoon.

The boy’s death, following the incident at Edgbaston Reservoir in Birmingham, has prompted the emergency services to again warn of the dangers of swimming in open water.
Station commander Simon Woodward, of West Midlands Fire Service, said their thoughts were with the boy’s family and friends.
He said the incident “serves as a tragic reminder of the very real dangers of swimming in open water”.
Mr Woodward added: “We commend the actions of those who tried to save him but would urge people to call 999 as soon as possible in such circumstances, to avoid putting themselves in danger.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “When ambulance staff arrived, they found a teenage boy who had been pulled from the reservoir and was being given CPR.
“Ambulance staff took over resuscitation efforts on scene before the teen was taken by ambulance to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”
The city coroner has been informed and the boy’s family are being supported by specially trained officers from West Midlands Police.
