Police have released photos of three people they want to trace after violent clashes and criminal damage on the streets of London.

Protesters set several small fires and threw bottles and fireworks at police officers as unrest broke out following the death of Rashan Charles, 20, last month after he was chased by police.

A peaceful demonstration in Hackney, east London, on the afternoon of July 28 was followed by a further protest which went late into the evening.

This was “used by a small number of people as an opportunity to commit disorder”, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detectives said the three people they want to identify and trace are a white woman with long brown hair who was wearing a blue denim top, and a black man who was unshaven with short black hair, and who was wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and glasses.

The third suspect is described as a light-skinned black man, in his late teens, who was wearing a grey tracksuit with a hood.

Demonstrators blocked Kingsland Road with wheelie bins, mattresses and debris which was later set on fire, while damage was caused to vehicles, a cash machine and a number of windows.

Restaurants and bars pulled down their shutters, locking customers inside, as the protesters were pushed down Kingsland High Street and beyond Dalston Kingsland station.

Police said no-one was seriously injured although an officer suffered an eye injury.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Coffey said: “We would like to speak to those pictured in connection with the disorder that took place that day.

“Anyone who recognises any of those pictured is asked to contact the investigation team directly on 020 7275 3632.”

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) watchdog is investigating the events leading to the death of Mr Charles.
