Live music police form impacts on ethnic minorities, minister claims
Critics say the risk assessment form has led to a number of shows by grime artists being called off.
Culture minister Matt Hancock has called on the mayor of London to scrap a controversial police form that live music promoters have to fill out because he says it disproportionately impacts on ethnic minorities.
The minister has written to Sadiq Khan urging him to end the Metropolitan Police’s 696 form system which can lead to events being cancelled at short notice.
Critics say the risk assessment form has led to a number of shows by grime artists being called off.
Mr Hancock told Channel Four News: “I think it disproportionally impacts people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. We don’t have the power to end form 696, the mayor of London does, so I’ve written to the mayor of London to request that he ends this form.
“He’s got the power to do it. It is in his hands, and I hope that he takes the action that is necessary.”
