A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found lying in the carriageway on the M54.

Police closed the M54 for the incident

The woman, who has not been named, was found just before Junction 4.

The Highways Agency closed the eastbound lanes between Junction 4 near Priorslee and Junction 3 near Weston yesterday morning.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Alexa Neville said: "The M54 was closed for around an hour-and-a-half yesterday morning after a woman was found with life-changing injuries in the eastbound carriageway shortly before 5am.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics and a doctor attended the scene.

"The woman was given advanced trauma care at the scene and then taken on blue lights to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, with serious injuries," the ambulance service said.

The road was closed from around 5.20am to 6.30am.
