Catherine Jones, who is a driving instructor at Stop and Go Driving, was taking a student out for a driving lesson on the A483 between Welshpool and Newtown.

When coming down a slight hill, the student on his lesson was forced to stop dead, after a lorry decided to overtake a row of traffic including tractors.

The lorry driver only just managed to cut back into the left side of the road, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with the learner driver.

Mrs Jones had a dash cam in her car, and her husband Gareth took to social media to highlight the reckless driving on the stretch of road by posting the footage.

He was unhappy by the manoeuvre which he said could have left two families devastated.

Mr Jones took to Facebook to say: "This happened on a lesson that my wife was conducting today.

"She was amazed with how well the pupil reacted to both what was happening but also after the incident.

"They found somewhere to pull over and talked about the dangers you can encounter on the road and how important to keep concentrating whilst driving is.

"I phoned the company to speak to someone in charge after I saw the video because I was fuming.

"This idiot of a human being, never mind a driver, needs to realise that his actions could have resulted in two families being absolutely devastated by the loss of their loved ones because he was 'in a rush'."

The video posted on Facebook on Wednesday has received more than 10,000 views and numerous comments.

Mrs Jones said the incident has now been reported to the police, and she said it could have been catastrophic.

She added: "We’re in the process of reporting it to the police. It was very alarming seeing the lorry coming towards us.

"Luckily we both reacted very quickly and were exceedingly fortunate that the driver behind us was keeping his following distance otherwise it could have been catastrophic."
