Investigations have been ;launched after a sinkhole appeared in a Telford road.

The sink hole

The hole, in Hollies Road, Wellington, appeared on Friday night, and was cordoned off and made safe for motorists shortly afterwards.

Severn Trent Water have investigated and found that the hole was not caused by a water leak.

Now Telford & Wrekin Council are opening an investigation into the cause.

Russell Griffin, of Telford & Wrekin Council, said: “Our out of hours crew was called out to Hollies Road on Friday night and took steps to cordon off the void and make it safe for motorists.

“We have had discussions with Severn Trent Water who have investigated and have said they are satisfied that there is no water leak causing this opening. We are therefore going to carry out a further investigation as to the cause of the ground opening up. This will probably involve a road closure for a period of about a week.

“Fortunately, this has happened before work has started on the £700,000 project we have already announced to improve the area around Hollies Road. This work is expected to start during September 2018.”
