Delays for drivers as essential work carried out in Ironbridge

The council will be carrying out a high friction surfacing replacement scheme to improve the condition of the carriageway on Ironbridge Road – the hairpin bend between the free bridge and Broseley – Ladywood and Bridge Bank.

The work is due to start from Monday, weather permitting, and is due to finish by April 16.

The roads will be closed, over varied times, while contractors complete the necessary works.

Access will be maintained during the works for residents and emergency vehicles. Letters have been sent out to those affected by the works.

The works are part of a Pride in Our Community programme, which will see an additional £45 million invested over the next three years in improving the borough's roads, pavements, street lights and structures.

This will include the installation of energy efficient street lights and road signs, a programme of road lining improvement, as well as additional investment in repairing local roads, paths and environmental maintenance.

Chris Kowalik, spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "We are carrying out an essential maintenance scheme to replace two sections of High Friction Surfacing on Ladywood.

"These are at the junction with Ironbridge Road and at the junction with Bridge Bank. This project involves replacing the road surface and repairing any defective iron work before adding a new high friction surface which will improve skid resistance.

"This will improve road safety on two difficult sections of road within the Ironbridge Gorge.

"The closures will also be used to carry out some additional minor works to the embankment next to the Ironbridge Road junction where is encroaching onto the road.

"These works have been planned to take place after utility works have been completed along Ironbridge Road and have been coordinated with the restoration works taking place on the Iron Bridge."
