Work began yesterday on Ellesmere Road outside the entrance to the Old Garden Nurseries and will go on until March 30.

There will be two-way traffic signals in place while Severn Trent Water installs a new mains connection.

It is the latest in a string of works, which has seen months of disruption in the town, with significant work taking place at Meole Brace roundabout, Sutton Park roundabout, Reabrook roundabout, and the English Bridge Gyratory/Coleham Head.

In recent weeks Wyle Cop has been the latest area affected.

All the work is being carried out as part of £12 million Shrewsbury Integrated Transport Package (SITP) being completed by Shropshire Council.

The authority has argued that the work will improve traffic flow in the town.

Traffic signals will also be in place on The Mount and outside number 171 Sundorne Road from tomorrow until Friday, on Ditherington Road tomorrow, and on the A458 from Cross Houses to Cound Junction, Cross Houses, from tomorrow until Tuesday.

Shrewsbury Town Council leader Alan Mosley has previously called for a taskforce to investigate the planning of road works in the town, describing the impact of the works as a "disaster".

Councillor Mosley wants a task and finish group to be set up to "investigate all aspects" of how the works are "planned, implemented and monitored".
