Oswestry commuters are getting an increased services to Gobowen, giving them better access to the main line train station in the village. However travellers from Ellesmere will see their service to the village and rail line reduced.

A new bus between Oswestry and Shrewsbury has also been introduced to replace the former express service.

Arriva said the changes came into place at the weekend.

The main change involves bus service 53 Oswestry - Ellesmere which runs via St Martins and Gobowen.

It has changed from an irregular timetable of about 40 minutes to a regular hourly service.

On the Arriva website the company says: "Combined with service 2, the Oswestry - Wrexham bus, there is now a 30 minute frequency between Oswestry and Gobowen."

Ellesmere to Oswestry bus users can chose between the A53 and the A449 bus, the latter travelling via Welsh Frankton and Whittington.

Arriva says there are also minor changes to the 449 Oswestry - Welshampton service via Ellesmere.

Oswestry passengers are also affected by alteration to the bus timetable for those travelling to the county town.

In Shrewsbury there have been minor changes to bus 23, 24 and 25 services, each of them running from the town centre to the densely populated Heathgates and Harlescott area of the town.

There have also been minor changes to the bus 26 Shrewsbury - Adswood Grove service.

A completely new route, the 70A has been brought it to replay the previous, X70 service.

Combined with the bus 70 it will still mean a half hourly service for passenger travelling between the two Shropshire towns. However there are changes to the 70A route with buses using Unicorn Road instead of Cabin Lane in eastern Oswestry.

Passengers can opt for the 70 which takes in the villages of Nesscliffe, Montford Bridge and Bicton, are the less frequent 70A which bypasses the three villages on the A5 trunk road.

Service 70 will also no longer serve the Oswestry Caravan and Camping site near Nesscliffe.
