Shropshire and Mid Wales could have up to 15 centimetres of snow on Friday
Shropshire could have up to 15 centimetres of snow as a cold weather front follows Storm Caroline across the county on Friday.
Today severe gales are hitting parts of the UK as Storm Caroline arrives – with forecasters warning of a danger to life amid “devastating” gusts in some areas – although Shropshire is likely to miss the worst of this.
As Storm Caroline moves away from the UK later on Thursday and through Friday it will allow winds from the northwest to spread across the UK bringing much colder air.
The Met Office has issued a Yellow National Severe Weather Warning for snow and ice for tomorrow.
The warning covers Shropshire and the West Midlands.
It is expected that there will be between two and five centimetres of snow fairly widely, with up to 10 to 15 centimetres possible in some areas of Mid Wales and Shropshire.
Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight and during the morning.
A Met Office spokesman said: "Possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers with possible delays and cancellations to rail and air travel.
"Some rural communities could be cut off and power supplies interrupted. Probably some icy stretches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy and snowy surfaces."
