Anna Rose Bowler spoke at Bridgnorth Town Council's meeting on Tuesday to ask councillors for help tackling the dangerous drivers on Friars Street.

Mrs Bowler said the issue has been ongoing since she moved to the street at the end of 2015.

She said: "We've tallied seven cars travelling along Friars Street the wrong way recently.

"We have noticed particularly in the evening times, that cars will sprint along the road in the wrong direction.

"They often drive quickly along the road as they know they are driving along the road in the wrong direction. My husband and I have also received some defiance from perpetrators of the act.

"The problem has always been there since Cartway has been closed, drivers think this is a great route. We're quite concerned with the closure of the bypass coming up, it could be seen as an attractive route.

"There's a blind corner and teenagers skate board down it quite a lot, we're worried it's an accident waiting to happen.

"It's becoming an increasing problem. People are very rude to us when we stop them about their driving."

Mrs Bowler also asked if the street could be considered for the "20 is plenty" campaign i a bid to reduce speed.

Councillor Carol Whittle suggested the council writes to Shropshire Council to look at the issue.

Councillors voted to write to Shropshire Council and the police about the problems with Friars Street.
