Rail disruption between Shrewsbury and Birmingham as engineering works overrun

Rail passengers in Shropshire are facing a day of disruption as Bank Holiday engineering works overrun.

Services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham are to be affected all day by engineering works that have been carried out over the weekend near Wolverhampton.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: "Additional work will need to be carried out this evening. Services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton will be affected all day."

The changes have meant London Midland stopping services between Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street are not running, with a rail shuttle service operating between Shrewsbury and Telford.

A bus replacement service is running between Telford and Wolverhampton, while passengers for London Midland services between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton or Birmingham New Street have been advised to travel on alternative routes.

Arriva Trains Wales' Cambrian Line services between Aberystwyth and Birmingham International are only running between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury before being diverted to Crewe.

Services between North Wales (Holyhead /Llandudno Junction) and Birmingham International via Chester and Shrewsbury were also not running between Shrewsbury and Birmingham International.
