Connexus tenants are being encouraged to get involved right at the heart of running the housing association, as part of the landlord’s pioneering work in customer involvement. The local housing association has joined the National Housing Federation’s 'Together With Tenants' initiative, making sure tenants have their voices heard by their landlord.

Connexus has invited tenants to be involved at the heart of everything it does – from helping with safety and compliance inspections, through to holding the social and affordable housing landlord’s board to account.

So far, 50 tenants have signed up and more are being encouraged to do so.

Richard Woolley, CEO at Connexus, said: “Connexus has always seen a positive relationship with our tenants as being a top priority and sharing this knowledge with other landlords is a positive step forward for improving landlord-tenant relationships across the country."

Chance

Among a variety of customer involvement opportunities, Connexus tenants are able to take part in online consultations on key decisions, via the Connexus website, and a complaints review group sees tenants monitor the group’s success in handling complaints fairly. Supporting community projects has also helped strengthen the connection between Connexus and the rural communities in which the landlord operates.

Lorraine Teece, a tenant in the scheme, spoke to attendees at a National Housing Federation event online.

She said: “What would I say to anybody thinking about becoming an involved customer? Do it. This is our chance to get our voices heard and to make positive changes to our social landlords. Together, we really can make a difference.”

The aim of the 'Together with Tenants' charter is to rebalance and strengthen relationship between tenants and landlords.
