The 24 new homes in Malthouse Court, Alexandra Road, have been created for social rent for the non-profit Housing Plus Group, and built by Severnside Housing. The development comprises 12 one-bedroom houses, six one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments.

Residents are expected to collect the keys to their new homes in the next few days. Before then, a ribbon-cutting event took place.

Sarah Boden, chief executive of Housing Plus Group, said: “We are really excited about this project. We are providing high quality new homes for people who will be able to live and work in this popular part of Telford & Wrekin.

“The homes have been designed to reduce water and energy consumption and the development includes storm water storage tanks supporting long-term flood management in our community. Covered bicycle parking has also been provided, making it easier for residents to take advantage of the expanding network of cycle routes.”

Katherine Kynaston, the council’s assistant director of business, development and employment, said: “We welcome this housing scheme, which will provide new affordable homes for local people. It is very pleasing to see Housing Plus Group regenerate this site, which is so close to the many services and facilities in Wellington town centre.”
