Former Baschurch Railway Station for sale

A once-thriving railway station has gone on the market for more than £300,000.

Station House, Baschurch

The station, on Station Road in Baschurch, closed in the 1960s and has since been turned into a house.

The building is on the market with agents Halls for offers in the region of £309,995.

Previously, residents in Baschurch have fought to re-open the railway station, but they suffered a setback when Shropshire Council refused to pay for the feasibility study needed for the scheme, due to public spending cuts.

Baschurch Station Group believed a station would be viable because of the significant growth in the population.

Halls describes the property as: "A substantial and most interesting and historic Grade II listed former station building, of great charm and character, which is now, in need of complete modernisation and renovation but has great potential for adaptation in to a super private residence, flats/apartments or small hotel/B&B, together with extensive gardens."

It adds: "The station, which opened in 1848, was originally part of Great Western Railways Paddington to Birkenhead line.

"The property offers extensive internal accommodation, extending to approximately 2,400 sq ft, and, therefore, offers characterful internal accommodation, which retains a number of original features and even includes the original water tower, to one side, which, also has potential for alternative usages.

"Outside, there is parking for good number of vehicles and a good sized garden area, at present, all down to grass. The property extends, in all, to approximately 0.5 of an acre, or thereabouts.

"The sale of Station House does, therefore, provide an extremely rare opportunity to acquire an historic Grade II listed former station building with such potential for renovation according to one's individual tastes and preferences, subject to planning permission."
