A former Telford pub could be turned into apartments for vulnerable adults, it has been revealed.

The Red Lion in Holly Road, Little Dawley, Telford, could become 14 flats in a plan by Bromford Housing Association.

The group wants to turn it into a supported-living development, which will provide extra support and help to people who would like to live independently, but require extra care.

Residents could potentially include people with learning difficulties, visual impairments or other disabilities where additional support would be needed.

A specialist, provided by Bromford Housing, would be on site for up to 18 hours a week.

The plans also include a resource hub, which would be a communal area for both residents and the local community, with facilities to deliver training, employment advice and activities. Provision would include office accommodation with an open-space lounge and meeting area, a kitchen, bathroom, storage areas and a bedroom to allow a care provider to be on site if the needs of specific residents require it.

A new access would be built on to the site from Hafren Road and the former pub, which is now disused, already has two car parks providing spaces for 26 vehicles.

Dawley Hamlets Parish Council has said it has no objections to the plans but has concerns over the lack of a footpath at the side of the road by the site on Holly Road. It is felt that the provision of a footpath would ensure the safety of the flats' residents as this site is on a busy road and located near to a bend.

Five letters of objection have been received by residents who have claimed the proposals are an over development of the site.

Concerns have also been raised concerns over Hafren Road, which neighbours have claimed is already congested.

The scheme will be discussed by the planning committee next Wednesday.
