People living in a band D property will pay £1,918.58 between April 1 and March 31, 2020.

Clerk to Bishop's Castle Town Council, Gwilym Rippon, said the town has the 26th highest council tax in the country.

He said: "We have had the highest council tax based on a Band D property for the past few years now. We haven't got many houses but do have a lot of services and facilities to pay for.

"It's rather high because we are supporting things which Shropshire Council are offloading like the SpArC leisure centre. We gave them a £15,000 grant and £2,000 to the theatre.

"We're also upgrading the public hall at the moment which is a very well-used facility. We provide a lot of services here in Bishop's Castle."

The lowest council tax in Shropshire is Acton Scott at £1,710.10 for a band D property.
