The meeting in Much Wenlock was organised by Shropshire Council as the latest consultation on its preferred sites for development over the next 20 years.

Councillor David Turner, who represents the town, said the potential sites had been explained to the audience, who were able to give their opinion on the plans.

He said: "There was standing room only. We had well in excess of 100 people present to hear a presentation from senior planning officer Adrian Cooper.

"He presented the council's preferred sites for Cressage – the Eagles Pub on the A458 and a site at Harley Road on the A458.

"The preferred sites in Much Wenlock will be between Hunters Gate and Bridgnorth Road by Much Wenlock Primary School – for 80 houses

"In presenting that site he said the site would offer not only flood attenuation measures for the proposed housing but also further flood provision measures for the existing Hunters Gate estate.

"There is also a proposed site off the roundabout at the A458 Bridgnorth Road."

Councillor Turner said that some of the questions from the public had focused on using different sites for development.

He also urged people to make sure they have completed the consultation forms.

He said: "With a number of questions about proposed sites, alternative methods for reaching the target figure of 150 dwellings for Much Wenlock.

"Local people were keen to listen to his reasons about alternatives on brownfield land in the development boundary – around 80 houses are outside the designated boundary.

"The meeting finished with me in the chair saying "while I am sure the planning officers would take away the general mood of the meeting, it is important people go online and complete the consultation document or go to the library for a hard copy."
