Professor Drakeford was presenting his vision for the future development of the North Wales economy in Flintshire.

He says his plan for ‘21st century socialism’ will create an economy which works for the many, not just the few; attends to the needs of tomorrow, and invests in infrastructure and skills to support the success of Welsh businesses’.

“I want to put tackling inequality at the heart of Labour’s economic action plan, because more equal societies do better economically and socially, with faster and fairer growth. That way we all prosper together, creating the fairer society which is the core mission of the Labour Party.”

He says will also focus on the importance of Fair Work, in which the jobs which people do in meeting everyday needs - care services, retail and transport - are properly valued and rewarded.

Other policy pledges will include: Protecting jobs and the economy in any Brexit deal, creating new green jobs by making Wales a leader in renewable energy technology; simplifying support for businesses, cutting red tape and boosting local firms; setting up a Community Bank for Wales, providing loans to small businesses and banking facilities through a network of branches; making sure that people can still come to Wales when there is a job waiting for them.

Prof Drakeford has the support of 16 Labour AMs, including Welsh Government Cabinet secretary and Clwyd South AM, Ken Skates.
