The Labour leader was speaking to supporters at the Arena in Telford Town Park, his third visit to the town in three months.

Mr Corbyn said he wanted people to get involved with Labour's policies so that the party was ready to "take on the Tories".

He said he was confident that Labour would win back the Telford seat, adding: "When Theresa May decides to hold another general election, we'll be there to win it."

To loud applause he said Labour would tackle tax evasion and said he saw no sign of "strong and stable" government from Theresa May's minority administration.

"All the signs are support for Labour has increased, because people have realised what Labour is saying is sensible and realisable," he said.

He said he welcomed health services that don't divide Telford and Shrewsbury. Talking about Brexit, he said the country needed to ensure trade with EU, which was important to businesses in Telford.

Earlier, Mr Corbyn visited Newdale Primary and Nursery School, in Telford, along with the party's former parliamentary candidate for Telford, Kuldip Sahota, meeting year five and six pupils as they raced self-built model cars.

Updates from Jeremy Corbyn's visit to Telford:

Mr Corbyn told the Shropshire Star he was certain Telford could be won back by Labour and that he believes there will be an election sooner than five years.

It is his third visit to Telford in three months and he has said he is “delighted” to return.

It also confirms the town as one of Labour’s target seats, included in a national list of constituency the party must win if it is to triumph in a future general election.

Mr Corbyn has set out plans for a summer campaign in almost 100 target seats, including Telford, along with a “social media blitz” as Labour seeks to keep up its momentum from the general election.

Mr Corbyn told the party’s MPs and peers about a campaign to target the 95 most marginal Tory-held seats.
