Power to the people of Ironbridge

With Ironbridge Power Station set to be redeveloped, it seems a timely opportunity to show this picture of men building the original power station on the site. Probably taken during the summer of 1931, it was featured in our sister paper the Telford Journal in June 1978, when it was loaned by ex-boxer Ivor Price of Madeley who is on the extreme right. He said that the picture was taken at the top of the lift, the highest point of the power station with the exception of the chimneys. He was working as a boiler erector. This is of course the 1930s power station, not the Ironbridge B power station built in the 1960s.
