Toyota unveils Proace City compact van

New commercial vehicle has been joint-developed with French giants Groupe PSA

Toyota has bolstered its line-up of commercial vehicles with this — the Proace City.

The compact van becomes the firm’s smallest offerings within its workhorse line-up, and has been developed in collaboration with Groupe PSA.

It’s available in two lengths — 4.4m and 4.7m respectively. Both versions can be specified with three seats upfront, and as either a panel or glass van. In addition, the longer wheelbase model is offered as a ‘crew cab’ — bringing with it an additional row of seating.

In its shortest form, the Proace City boasts 3.3m3 of load volume, rising up to 4.3m3 for longer wheelbase models with the ‘Smart Cargo’ option. This additional extra also allows for load lengths of up to 3.4m.

A passenger variant will also be offered. Dubbed the Proace City Verso, it’s available with either three individual rear seats — each with Isofix mounting points — or a 60:40 folding bench in the second row, plus the option of an extra pair of seats right at the back of the car to make it a seven-seater.

There’s a whole host of safety systems present on both the van and Verso too. For no extra cost, pre-collision warning, road sign assistance, lane keep assist and cruise control all feature. Optional extras include automatic high beam headlights, sway warning, adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring.

As for luxury inclusions, an eight-inch touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is equipped, while a head-up display can be specified too. Other extras making up the options list include a rear-view camera with a 180-degree field of view.

Powertrain options are yet to be confirmed, though Toyota says the Proace City will boast a range of petrol and diesel options.

Expect to hear more on full UK pricing and specifications as the van and MPV approach a late 2019 release on our shores.
