Delight at getting a new £750,000 hypercar soon turned to despair for one owner who managed to crash his McLaren Senna just hours later.

Little is known about the incident, which happened in the Munich suburb of Grünwald and was posted on social media by a passer-by. It shows the 789bhp Senna with its front wheels on a verge and nose-first in a wall.

It’s difficult to make out the damage, but through the open door it can be seen that both driver and passenger airbags deployed – suggesting a fairly significant impact.

Any front-end damage to the Senna’s carbon-fibre construction would be met with a hefty price tag – likely running into five figures with ease. It’s understood that the owner is a 43-year-old businessman, with this crash believed to be the first by a McLaren Senna – the model was officially unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Adding insult to injury, the Senna was new. A post by the McLaren dealer in Munich just a few hours before the photo of the incident shows the car being delivered. Resplendent in Celestial Blue, the supercar is one of just 500 examples and is named after the legendary racing driver and Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna, who was killed in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

The Senna is capable of reaching 60mph in well under three seconds from rest and has a top speed of 211mph – dangerous figures in the wrong hands. Luckily, the car looks unlikely to be a write-off, and it’s doubtful the driver or passenger would have been seriously injured.
