As if the £1.75 million McLaren Speedtail wasn’t exclusive enough, a high-end extra is now available for the hypercar – an optional 18-carat white gold bonnet badge.

Available as a luxurious extra on the firm’s first-ever ‘Hyper GT’ car, the badge features carbon-fibre inlays which, according to McLaren, are a way of ‘combining art with extreme performance’.

Rob Melville, McLaren Automotive design director, said: “As beautiful pieces of exquisitely hand-crafted jewellery, the white-gold badges perfectly set off a car that in every way represents a new gold standard for McLaren luxury. They fit perfectly with the philosophy of the Speedtail, the most luxurious car in McLaren Automotive’s portfolio, as well as paying homage to its forebear, the McLaren F1.”

The upcoming petrol-electric hypercar – due to be revealed in full on October 26 – has been confirmed as being able to hit a top speed of ‘over 243mph’ – the same as that of the historic McLaren F1 – thanks to a power output of close to 1,000bhp. Just 106 will be available – the same number of units as the iconic F1.

All cars have so far been allocated, with each coming with an aluminium badge as standard. Melville added: “Speedtail is centred around breathtaking beauty, luxury and craftsmanship.

“The gold badges add to a car whose jewel-like qualities already shine out, and confirm Speedtail’s uniqueness as the luxury McLaren without equal.”
