The EZ-PRO is designed to offer an autonomous solution to last-mile deliveries

Renault has given a glimpse into the future of delivery vehicles with its EZ-PRO concept.

The autonomous and all-electric vehicle has been designed to help with last-mile deliveries – an area often plagued with disruption for distribution companies.

Ashwani Gupta, senior vice-president of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s light commercial vehicle business section, said: “Renault EZ-PRO shows our vision of last-mile delivery integrated with the ecosystem of smart cities of tomorrow and the needs of professionals.

“This concept is a solution that would unlock countless opportunities for our various partners such as the ones we’re showing today with – DPD Group, Lomi Coffee, Piper-Heidsieck and Patrick Roger.”

The EZ-PRO is made up of an autonomous leader ‘pod’ connected to a series of driverless robo-pods. The leader pod has a ‘human concierge’ who oversees the operations and can provide a more personal delivery service.

The pods are capable of driving independently, or can follow each other in a process called ‘platooning’. Each pod can also be customised to offer different storage and delivery options for users.

Laurens van den Acker, senior vice-president of Groupe Renault Corporate Design, said: “With EZ-PRO, we continue our exploratory work around urban shared mobility of the future. Focused on delivery solutions, this autonomous, connected and electric concept represents the ideal tool, being both a creator of opportunity for professionals and a facilitator of services for all its users, direct or indirect.

“It is based on Renault’s expertise in commercial vehicles and on the brand’s DNA, which places people at the heart of its solutions.”

The EZ-PRO is the latest in a series of concepts from Renault designed to show the future of mobility products, and follows on from the EZ-GO vehicle.
