Shocking footage has revealed the moment a group of sports car owners halted traffic to perform a reckless doughnut display.

The footage captured on San Francisco’s Bay Bridge shows two Ford Mustangs and a Toyota Supra power sliding across the tarmac of the bridge, preventing road users from passing by — with one even having its passenger-side door open during the act.

One driver was taken into custody for reckless driving and exhibition of speed, with his white Ford Mustang to be impounded for 30 days.

A tweet posted by the San Francisco arm of California Highway Patrol, which also included the video, said: “At 10:45, video taken by a passerby of vehicles stopping traffic and engaging in side show activity on the #BayBridge. San Francisco CHP units responded and took the driver of one of these vehicles into custody for reckless driving and exhibition of speed.”

It’s not known exactly how many vehicles were involved in the organisation of the stunt, but CHP San Francisco said numerous other drivers were cited for mechanical violations while one unidentified driver had his vehicle impounded as they were deemed unlicensed.

One Twitter user said: “They really were thinking they get away with this on a bridge into a major city? Getting really sick these idiots who think this is cool stuff to do. It’s not.”
