Licensed to thrill! Aston Martin to build limited run of ‘Goldfinger’ DB5s

Aston Martin is to build a limited number of replica examples of James Bond’s iconic DB5 – including spy-tech wizardry.

The ‘Goldfinger’ DB5 will be reproduced at Aston Martin Works in Newport Pagnell in collaboration with Eon Productions, which makes the James Bond film series.

Each example will be finished in Silver Birch – just like 007’s car – and will feature tech such as a revolving licence plate, developed with Oscar-winning Bond film effects supervisor Chris Corbould.

Underneath the aluminium bodywork will lie a 4.0-litre straight-six engine, delivering more than 280bhp to the rear wheels.

Sadly, it won’t be a road-legal machine – meaning you won’t be able to eject yourself from busy traffic jams.

The Aston Martin made its Bond debut in 1964’s Goldfinger and has since become as synonymous with the fictional secret agent as a shaken vodka martini – appearing in six more Bond films, right up to his most recent cinematic outing in 2015’s Spectre.

A total of 25 cars will be made for customers, priced at £2.75m before local taxes. Deliveries will begin in 2020, with the British luxury firm to produce three more examples for charity auction.

“To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans, but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy.”
