Porsche will be the first car manufacturer to feature in three Goodwood Festival of Speed central displays later this year, as the world-famous car show celebrates its 25th birthday.

The date also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the German car maker’s first sports car, the 356.

The Duke of Richmond and Gordon, whose seat is Goodwood House, said: “Porsche has been one of our most loyal and enthusiastic partners, supporting the Festival of Speed since 1995, and the Revival since 2010.

“This year Porsche will become the first manufacturer to create the central display at the Festival for the third time, underlining the huge contribution from this iconic manufacturer of world-beating racing cars and road cars.”

Alexander Pollich, managing director of Porsche Cars Great Britain, said: “We thought long and hard about how best to celebrate the 70th anniversary of our sports cars and how we could share this with enthusiasts, Porsche fans and owners here in the UK.

“The Goodwood Festival of Speed will be the perfect setting – allowing the cars that, over seven decades, have made Porsche so unique and so special, to be seen, and heard, in action.

“Watching a 917 spear its way past the famed ‘Flint Wall’ is a Hill highlight I’m very much looking forward to this July.”

The Festival of Speed is an annual event that takes place in the grounds of Goodwood House in Sussex. Each year, a large display is erected on the lawn in front of the house celebrating a particular aspect of the motoring world.

Last year’s display celebrated former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone’s career, and featured five race cars from different eras spearing out into the sky. Other displays have celebrated Italian supercar maker Ferrari, German manufacturer BMW and British sports car maker Lotus.

This year the festival takes place between July 12 and 15.
