Range Rover is to release a special, limited-run coupé as part of parent company Land Rover’s 70th anniversary.

Only 999 examples of the SV Coupé are being produced, and the brand says it has been designed to pay homage to the original Range Rover.

It will be fully revealed at the Geneva International Motor Show in March.

The carmaker says the SV Coupé is a celebration of its bloodline, with a “dramatic” two-door silhouette that alludes to its heritage – Range Rover originally launched as a two-door in 1970.

The brand adds that the new SV does all this while being modern and contemporary.

Not much has been revealed about the vehicle, apart from a view of the four-seat cabin from above.

It shows a leather-clad interior with contrasting black and white front and rear seats. A wooden, or wooden-look, centre console connects the rear of the car to the front.

Range Rover says: “The image illustrates the traditional skills combined with up-to-the-minute technologies utilised throughout the cabin to exquisite effect. Stunning to the eye, sumptuous to the touch, it is a light, contemporary space where attention to detail has been paramount.”

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover chief design officer, said: “The Range Rover SV Coupé is a highly compelling design with peerless refinement and uncompromised sophistication from its breathtaking exterior proportions to its sumptuous, beautifully appointed interior.

“This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level.”

Land Rover Design and Special Vehicle Operations have created the SV Coupé, which will be hand-assembled at the SV Technical Centre in Ryton-on-Dunsmore in Warwickshire.

John Edwards, Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations managing director, said: “Land Rover created the luxury SUV sector with Range Rover almost 50 years ago.

“In launching the new Range Rover SV Coupé, we will offer clients an alluring combination of peerless luxury and rarity.

“Unveiling this special vehicle at the Geneva International Motor Show in March, during Land Rover’s 70th-anniversary year, will be a defining moment for Land Rover, the Range Rover portfolio and Special Vehicle Operations.”

Land Rover is set to release the full specifications of the SV Coupé on March 6. The Geneva motor show runs from March 8 to 18.
