Mercedes-Benz has opened the order books for its latest S-Class Cabriolet, which has been priced from £115,910 in the UK.

The luxurious convertible is available in three different configurations. There’s the entry-level S 560 AMG Line, as well as the £140,610 Mercedes-AMG S 63 and the £197,510 Mercedes-AMG S 65.

The S 560 replaces the S 500 and is powered by a new 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine. This develops 436bhp and 700Nm, allowing it to complete the sprint from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

The S 63 also features a 4.0-litre V8 under the bonnet – although this power plant produces 604bhp and 900Nm of torque for a 0-60mph time of four seconds.

At the top of the range, the S 65 features a 6.0-litre V12 that develops 621bhp and 1,000Nm of torque, enabling the plush convertible to hit 60mph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds.

As with the S 560, the S 63 and S 65 are both limited to a top speed of 155mph, although the optional AMG Driver’s package (£1,960 for the S 63 and £765 for the S 65) will increase this to 186mph

Considering the range of powerful engines available with the new S-Class, it’s unsurprising that fuel economy isn’t stellar.

Mercedes claims the S 560 will manage a combined fuel consumption figure of 31.4mpg, while the S 63 and S 65 should be able to achieve respective figures of 28.8mpg and 23.5mpg.

CO2 emissions stand at 204g/km for the S 560, 225g/km for the S 63 and 272g/km for the S 65.

The S 560 is only available in AMG Line specification, which means standard features include 19-inch wheels, a Burmester surround sound system, 12.3-inch infotainment display, wireless phone charging and air suspension to name but a few.

The S 63 adds performance-orientated features such as an AMG sports exhaust, AMG sports suspension and larger 20-inch alloy wheels.

The flagship S 65 gains a number of high-tech features as standard, including Night View Assist Plus, a 360-degree parking camera, and an Intelligent Light System with Swarovski crystals.

Orders are now being taken for the new model, and Mercedes expects the first customer deliveries to arrive in spring 2018.
