Mercedes-Benz has announced that its new X-Class pick-up truck will cost from £27,310 excluding VAT.

Based on the same platform as the Nissan Navara, Mercedes’ first pick-up is available only as a double cab with 4Matic selectable all-wheel drive.

The premium take on a utilitarian vehicle also includes low-range gearing, a drive selection mode, double wishbone front suspension and multi-link suspension at the rear.

From launch, the X-Class is available with a choice of two 2.3-litre, four-cylinder diesel engines. In the X 220d, the engine is turbocharged and produces 161bhp, while in the X 250d the engine has a twin-stage turbocharger and develops 187bhp. Customers can select a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission depending on model.

Three trim levels are available, with Pure representing the entry-level model, Progressive in the middle of the range and Power as the flagship.

As the most basic X-Class trim, Pure offers a limited number of standard features, including halogen headlights, manually adjustable driver and passenger seats, semi-automatic air-conditioning and a matt black finish on the radiator grille.

Progressive models cost from £28,510 excluding VAT, and add features such as aluminium door sills, chrome door handles, 17-inch alloys and heated exterior mirrors.

Range-topping Power models come with a chrome rear bumper, LED headlights and tail lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a more premium interior specification. Prices start at £34,100 excluding VAT.

All cars benefit from a standard-fit infotainment system that incorporates DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity and pre-installation for Garmin’s Map Pilot satellite navigation system.

A strong range of safety equipment also features on all models, including lane-keep assist, active brake assist, a reversing camera and hill-start assist to name but a few.

Order books for the new X-Class are now open, with first customer deliveries expected to take place in January 2018.
