Sleek model joins German manufacturer’s range

BMW has revealed the latest entry in its X range — the X2.

The new model sits alongside the X1 as an entry-level option in the German manufacturer’s SUV line-up, offering a sleeker alternative to its stablemate.

The compact SUV is seven centimetres lower and two centimetres shorter than the X1, despite retaining an identical wheelbase.

Thanks to this, as well as a stretched roofline and a large version of BMW’s iconic kidney grille, it offers an aggressive appearance.

As for the rest of the exterior, full LED headlights are available as standard equipment on Sport, M Sport and M Sport X trim levels.

All models receive 17-inch alloy wheels — while M Sport and M Sport X models are available with a 20-inch option.

At the back of the car, a rear spoiler and twin exhaust pipes complete the package.

Inside, leather or Alcantara upholstery is available — with optional perforated leather highlights and LED ‘mood lights’ that can display orange, lilac, mint, bronze, blue or white, depending on the atmosphere the driver wants to create.

Available at the X2’s launch is a single four-cylinder diesel engine, developing 187bhp and 400Nm of torque — taking the car from 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and up to a top speed of 137mph. Fuel efficiency is a claimed 61.mpg with CO2 emissions of 121g/km.

Other engine options will follow in 2018 — one petrol and two diesels — although full details have not been revealed.

Prices for the BMW X2 begin at £33,980 and it will be available to order from mid-November, with delivery dates yet to be confirmed.
