Volkswagen Golf tops list of cars being considered for scrappage schemes
Auto Trader analysis ranks models popular with drivers looking to ditch old polluting vehicles
The Volkswagen Golf has topped the list of cars most likely to be exchanged in scrappage schemes, new data has revealed.
Of 17,000 users of online car marketplace Auto Trader’s new scrappage scheme tracking tool, 17 per cent of those considering trading in their vehicle owned a Golf.
The German manufacturer’s Passat and Polo also placed in the top 10 — in seventh and 10th respectively.
Ford took the prize of the most-considered-for-scrappage manufacturer with 33 per cent, compared with 30 per cent for Volkswagen.
Other high-ranking cars included models from Vauxhall, BMW and Honda’s Civic.
Despite the majority of scrappage schemes focused towards removing diesel cars from UK roads, 49 per cent of those using the tool currently own petrol vehicles.
Ivan Aistrop, road test editor for Auto Trader, said: “We know the diesel debate has confused motorists and concerned many diesel owners who are worried about being penalised for driving an older diesel car.
“As a marketplace that sits at the heart they of car buying and selling process for motorists in the UK, we are making developments like scrappage schemes easier to understand for motorists.”
