DVLA reveals personalised plates set to go under the hammer

Sought-after registrations are being auctioned off this week

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has revealed the personalised vehicle number plates it is putting up for auction later this week.

A wide variety of registrations are on offer, with those that reference people’s names, car models and simple number combinations all available.

Those no doubt set to fetch a large sum include ‘812 S’ and ‘812 SA’, which will be of interest to buyers of the new Ferrari 812 Superfast, while Aston Martin owners will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the ‘A57 TON’ registration.

However, at the other end of the cost scale there are some potentially good deals to be had on name-based plates. ‘N41 NCY’ and ‘M42 RCO’ start from £250, with ‘OSC 42R’ a bit pricier at £350.

Quirkier alternatives include ‘ROW 60AT’, which starts at £250, and ‘YA11 CHT’ at £400.

Jody Davies, DVLA personalised registrations senior sales manager, said: “We have experienced another hugely successful year with a great number of registrations surpassing our expectations.

“Our last live auction held in the summer fell just four lots short of a 100 per cent sell-out and we are hoping that success will continue with our autumn sale.”

Anyone can buy a personalised plate for their vehicle, but rules state that it cannot be used to make the car look newer than it is. For example, the DVLA states that an ‘07’ plate could not be put on a 2003 car.
