Volkswagen’s latest Golf Sportsvan is set to make its public debut at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The German manufacturer has introduced three new petrol engines, a greater range of safety assistance systems as well as new and improved infotainment technology – including gesture control on the range-topping units.

The compact van’s exterior has also been subjected to a minor refresh, with aesthetic changes including new bumpers, LED headlights, and five new alloy wheel designs. The cabin also benefits from new trims and fabrics, as well as leather seats.

The greatest focus, however, has been on improving the Golf Sportsvan’s technology offering. Volkswagen has introduced its latest Discover Pro radio navigation system, which features a 9.2-inch touchscreen and gesture control.

Also new is the ability to control the infotainment system through a specialist Media Control app for tablets and smartphones. Connecting to the wifi hotspot will allow owners to control many of the system’s functions through their portable device, regardless of whether they are sat in the car or not.

A range of new safety systems are now available on the Golf Sportsvan, too. These include traffic jam assist, pedestrian monitoring and park assist to name but a few.

Customers will be able to specify their Golf Sportsvan with a choice of three new petrol engines and two diesel engines.

No word has been issued yet as to when the Golf Sportsvan will go on sale in the UK, but it is set for an autumn release in Germany.

The Frankfurt Motor Show runs from September 12 to 24.
