Wales Rally GB organisers announce competition for schools
Children and teenagers in Wales have been given the best kind of summer holiday homework — the unique chance to design a racing livery for a real rally car ahead of this year’s Wales Rally GB.
Jointly coordinated by the rally organisers and the Engineering Education Scheme Wales on behalf of the Welsh government, the competition to design a livery is open to all primary schools, secondary schools and colleges in Wales.
Separate entry categories exist for Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5, with the overall winner seeing their design appear on a Toyota GT86 that will be unveiled by an unnamed WRC star on the eve of the rally.
Winners of each category will be invited behind-the-scenes of the event and into the Rally Village, where they will be presented with merchandise and goody bag prizes.
The competition closes September 29, giving anyone wanting to participate the whole summer break to work on their dream rally car livery.
The Wales Rally GB runs from 26-29 October. Last year’s winner and M-Sport driver Sebastien Ogier will be hoping to make it two Rally GB wins in a row as he seeks to secure his fifth World Rally Championship.
