London Taxi Company’s new electric black cab will take to the famous hill climb at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Appearing in the First Glance paddock at the annual festival, the range-extended electric taxi will make its dynamic debut on Lord March’s driveway, alongside a number of high-powered supercars and priceless classic racers.

Seventeen-year-old Katie Milner – who is currently the fastest woman in the Ginetta championship – will get behind the wheel of the taxi for the hill climb. In doing so, she will also become the youngest female driver to participate in the prestigious event.

Owing to its use of supercar manufacturing techniques and extensive use of lightweight materials, the electric taxi has also been invited to be showcased on the Michelin Supercar Paddock stage throughout the course of the festival.

LTC has been putting the new electric taxi through its paces during extreme all-weather testing in both Arizona and the Arctic Circle.

Commenting on the weather testing earlier this month, Dr Wolfram Liedtke, head of quality at LTC, said: “Testing in these extremes provides us with a huge amount of data, helping us to understand how the performance of the batteries changes at high temperatures, and how we can get the most charge out of them.

“In the next few weeks, our equipment testing will also take us to extremely humid environments, as well as some more mountainous terrain. This is all preparation for one of the most challenging environments for vehicles – everyday use on the streets of London.”

The 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed will run from June 29 to July 2.
