The Isle of Man police force has just taken a fast new addition to their fleet of patrol cars – a BAC Mono single-seater.

The road-legal lightweight supercar will now become an active member of the fleet, and will also be making appearances at a number of local festivals to help promote safe and responsible driving.

Powered by a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine producing 280bhp, the Mono can hit 60mph in under three seconds and has a claimed top speed of 170mph. More than enough power, then, to patrol the roads of the Isle of Man effectively.

PC Andy Greaves, who is the force’s dedicated Mono driver, said: “It’s a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike. We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport.”

Neill Briggs, BAC co-founder and director of product development, added: “We have a very special affinity with the Isle of Man and we’re absolutely delighted to bring this extra-special Mono to a remarkable police force. The Government has been nothing but amazingly supportive to BAC and the BAC dream, and we’re honoured to be able to play our part in making their roads a safer place. This is a world first for both BAC and the Isle of Man and something both parties are incredibly proud of.”

The BAC team recently took to the island for a unique Mono experience weekend, which saw 12 cars come together and take to the very best roads that the Isle of Man can offer.
