Wellington Post Office reopens after months of staffing problems

Wellington Post Office reopened yesterday morning following months of staffing issues.

The branch in Market Street has been shut on and off since January 22, with businesses in Wellington saying the closure had been hurting their bottom lines.

A temporary postmaster was brought in to get the unit back in order, and yesterday reopened.

Shelia Tipster, a Post Office spokeswoman, said: “We are pleased to announce that Wellington Post Office has re-opened.

“We sincerely apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Wellington Post Office.

"We understand and appreciate how much communities rely on our services and we are sorry for the recent disruption to services.”

Some businesses reported being down in takings by as much as 75 per cent while the post office was shut.

Councillor Lee Carter, who represents the College ward in Wellington, said: "I'm sorry it took so long but massive praise for the businesses in the vicinity who carried on despite takings being down up to 75 per cent."
