The King Street and Regent Street mosques collected the funds for those hit by exploitation in the town.

The total was raised within 48 hours, and they say they will continue to hold further collections in the coming months.

Ray Afsar, a member of the Muslim community in Wellington, said: "Our community has been shamed. Telford has to be shamed. It has to stop.

"It is great to see that so many people have donated to help survivors of child sexual exploitation in the town."
