The westbound carriageway was closed between junction 6 for Telford central and Junction 7 for Wellington after up to 16 deer waked onto the motorway.

It happened around midnight and Highways England tweeted: "The M54 is closed westbound between J6 and J7 in #Shropshire due to alarge number of deer straying onto the carriageway. We are working with @WMerciaPolice to clear the road."

An hour later they posted: "The #M54 in #Shropshire between J6 and J7 has reopened following the safe removal of up to 16 deer from the carriageway. No significant delays. Have a safe journey."
