The vigil was taking place in Wellington Peace Garden from 6.30pm.

Organiser Andy Brown said he had been in talks with a local mosque about organising the event.

He said: "We're expecting quite a few people, we've been consulting with a local mosque.

"The whole vigil is about peace and solidarity to promote unity and encourage people to stand together and not be divided by racism."
