Inquest opens on motorcyclist who died in Shropshire crash

An inquest has opened on a motorcyclist who died after an accident with a car.

David Robert Evans, 70, died after a crash on the B4176 near to TFM Ltd, Stableford, on October 12.

He was riding his motorcycle from Sutton Maddock when he was involved in the collision with a silver Peugeot van.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned yesterday.

Mr Evans, of Glendale Close, Wolverhampton, died at the scene of the accident which happened at about 12.15pm.

A female rider was taken to New Cross Hospital with serious injuries, and the driver of the van was assessed and discharged by ambulance personnel at the scene.

Claire Brown, a spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said that three ambulances were sent to the scene.

A paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a doctor on board and the West Midlands Care Team also attended.

She added: “When crews arrived, they found a non-emergency private ambulance crew carrying out CPR on a man who had been riding a motorcycle.

“Ambulance staff immediately took over and provided advanced life support. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, it wasn’t possible to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The road was blocked for several hours following the accident at 12.15pm.

Mr Evans was a retired professional welder.

The inquest was opened at Shirehall in Shrewsbury yesterday.

It heard that Mr Evans’s body was identified by his brother at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital on October 17.

The inquest was opened by Coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, John Ellery, and was adjourned until February 6 at Shirehall in Shrewsbury.

At the time of the crash, PC Marc Whild from West Mercia Police said: “We are in the very early stages of the investigation and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police on 101 as soon as possible quoting reference 297s of October 12.”
